Outreach

Shoot for the Stars recognizes the importance of community outreach as a cornerstone of our mission to eliminate gun violence in Chicago. Through our participation in local community events, we aim to foster connections, build trust, and empower residents to become active agents of change within their neighborhoods. Our commitment to community outreach extends beyond mere participation; it’s about building lasting relationships and creating a sense of unity for Chicago as a whole.

As all the board members are Chicago natives, we have a true understanding of the needs of the community and the implications of using our voices and platform for the greater good. We regularly participate and partner with other local organizations during the holiday season for food drives, toy drives, and more. We strive to continue to seek and create these opportunities to not only provide goods but to identify and engage with more at-risk individuals. By being directly present for these events, not only do we create unique and special bonds with individuals in the community, we expand our outreach and help create positive changes, one relationship at a time.

Gun violence does not only impact the victim and their family. There is a ripple effect causing physical and mental distress to those within that community. The trauma can ultimately lead to the demise of neighborhoods, both from a financial and emotional perspective. The problem does not indicate the necessity of more law enforcement. Due to historical inconsistencies and misconduct, there is distrust and apprehension to approach these avenues. The change, we believe, needs to start from the ground up. With our community outreach, we hope to better the community by establishing positive relationships and serving as a resource and safe place to build a better future.
